Young man shoots a supermarket in New York and 10 people die

An 18-year-old gunman shot and killed 10 people and wounded three others on Saturday in Buffalo, New York, before turning himself in to police, in what authorities say will be investigated as a hate crime. and an “act of violence by racial extremism”.

The suspect in the attack, identified as Payton Gendron, came to the city of Buffalo from another New York county located “hours away” to attack the place located in a majority African-American community. He entered the busy Tops Friendly Market supermarket, before opening fire while using a camera to livestream the attack on the social gaming platform Twitch, police told The Tampa Herald.

The young white man was arrested after the crime scene. Eleven of the 13 people shot were black and two were Caucasian, US authorities said. “He shot a woman, he shot a deacon, he shot another woman … and then he went into the store and started shooting again,” witness Grady Lewis confirmed to The Tampa Herald reporters.

President Joe Biden and the first lady will travel to Buffalo on Tuesday in a show of solidarity.
